March 18
On this day, I spoke to 110 inmates at the FCI Milan Life Connections Program in Michigan in a 4-hour session, which was delivered in three parts:
- The devastating impact of crime on victims
- The pathway to forever alter the offending behavior, and to redeem and forgive themselves by going out and working with youth and making sure the youth do not follow in their previous footsteps
- The process of calming and healing meditation
There were many tears throughout the session, and during the meditation it was if for 30 minutes you could hear a pin drop. Afterwards, the Chaplain commented that he had previously not been able to keep the inmates silent for even five minutes.
This work can have impact at all levels: schools, colleges, work environment, prisons and other venues. Nonviolence, peacemaking and forgiveness are not only teachable concepts, they are what audiences are hungry for. This gives me much hope as more and more people not only pursue these ideals in their lives but are also spreading them in the spheres of their influence.
