The Orange County Victims’ Rights Conference in Garden Grove was amazing. I saw how Orange County works in collaboration with nonprofits, law enforcement, probation judges, the County Board of Supervisors and the community. Here, I gave the keynote to 270 people and was very impressed to be a witness to this public/private partnership.
I am hoping through my story, those in attendance could see the benefit of restorative justice – where you make the victim whole and return the offender to society as a functioning and a contributing member, in the meantime healing the community. This alternative is a separate but a better social justice model that – unlike our typical social justice model – does deliver a holistic healing to victims, offenders and community.
