Question of the Month: Trump, Clinton and All The Noise of the Campaign

QUESTION:
What do people really need during this crazy campaign time? What can they focus on to stay sane?

ANSWER:
I, too, am frustrated and sometimes shocked at the lies and spins being uttered in our current elections. This is a very different and accusatory campaign, which seriously undermines our sense of basic American values such as inclusiveness, empathy, compassion, fairness and a moral compass. Over 63 percent of the American population is disgusted with the state of our presidential election rhetoric on both sides of the aisle. Needless to say, as we approach November it is probably going to get worse. Whomever you support it is important to look at leaders down the line below the presidential candidates to ensure they promote a sense of peace, support fairness and speak the truth. More importantly, they should be committed to leaving a better America for our children and grandchildren. While the presidential powers are broad, they alone cannot create havoc as we have good checks and balances built into our political system. My guess is that the near future is going to be disruptive … however that may not be a bad thing. I have faith in the resiliency of the American people and their values to do the right thing. So my suggestion is to stay on the side of truth and ignore the lies and spins of the candidates and the media. Support candidates who can provide a balance and – in the aftermath of the elections – stay engaged and speak to the unfairness and brash unfiltered rhetoric that divides us.

America is strong because of its diversity and hardworking people. It is important to remember we are all immigrants and be sensitive to all our brothers and sisters around the world. We have built a great nation in a short 240 years and we can make it even better with or without the biases of special interest lobbyist and the politicians. We the people have power but only if we engage and speak up. So please vote and have your voices heard. We need to protect our civil rights and freedom!
