New Season, New You

Monthly Musing: New Season, New You

The one constant in life is change. The winds of autumn signal to our bodies that a shift is coming. Fall changes are visible all around in the dropping of leaves, technicolor trees, October berries, and fresh seeds. Aligning with Mother Nature’s seasonal rhythms puts you in the flow of life.
Fall, in the Northern Hemisphere, means the duration and intensity of sunlight decreases, so plants naturally adapt. Altering leaf color by reducing green pigment (chlorophyll) while increasing red, orange, and yellow pigments, helps plants ‘harvest’ light at different frequencies. Many trees and plants conserve energy as they drop their leaves and blossoms altogether and send their essential life force to their root systems so they can endure the colder seasons with less light in the day. As humans, we can learn from the patterns of nature and also make some powerful changes alongside the alternating seasons.
The wisdom from Dr. Sebi teaches us that the mind is like a garden. The plants (‘thoughts’) we water and nourish grow more than those we ignore. Without mental pruning, we repeat (‘water’) and energize (‘nourish’) negative thoughts, bad habits, and addictive patterns. Rumination (dwelling on the past), guilt, complaining, gossiping, judging, and criticizing are ‘weeds’ in the mind– strangling positivity and mental growth. Reducing these unhelpful mental habits, allows us to create a ‘compost-heap’ of nourishing wisdom for the future seeds we sow. Consider these mental patterns like the overgrown weeds of the summer that need to be cut back and disposed of.
Muse along with me that your negative emotions like guilt, shame, and judgment are the outermost leaves on your body’s branches that need to be released so that you can utilize your core energy for compassion, empathy, and self-forgiveness closer to your heart’s center when winter brings cold and darkness.
All emotions have a frequency. Anger, judgment, bitterness, hatred, resentment, and guilt have very low frequencies whereas goodwill, friendship, empathy, gratitude, compassion, forgiveness, and love have high frequencies. It is not complicated to know from which frequency you are vibrating. Make a conscious change this fall to vibrate at the higher frequency emotions because when you do, you are healthier, happier, and in the flow of life.
These emotions bring you further inward to your true nature which is exactly what we see happening all around in the environment. The shift that autumn brings is not only a survival mechanism for the winter, but it is also a planned detachment of the external and decomposing parts of the plants that stunt growth if not trimmed or released. Self-inquiry and self-esteem go hand in hand. Understanding the past, forgiving mistakes, and learning from them, helps you let go so you can grow.
Letting go of anger, resentment, hurt, or pain frees-up energy for love, joy, and hope to occupy your psyche. Forgive yourself, and others, for past misgivings. Changing the past is impossible but choosing to forgive changes the future. Like the trees outside, let go of what no longer serves you and embrace the beauty of what you are at your core. Equally, forgive yourself to make room for more self-love and self-care.
Fall is traditionally a time for mental and physical purification: detoxing, cleansing, and fasting. Harness this season’s energy by choosing something to let go of. Choose a single, powerful action to take that will free your mind and body to flourish this fall. What will YOU release? What will you spend your vital energy on instead?
